About the Beach

Siesta Key Beach — officially "Siesta Beach" per Sarasota County — is one of the most celebrated beaches in the United States. Located on the Gulf side of Siesta Key, it's been named the #1 Beach in America by Dr. Beach in both 2011 and 2017, earning permanent induction into his Hall of Fame. TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice awards have ranked it #1 in the U.S. multiple times — including 2015, 2017, 2020, and most recently 2025, when it was also named the #4 beach in the world.

The first thing you'll notice is the sand. It's 99% pure quartz crystal — powdery, bright white, and unlike any other beach sand in Florida. Because quartz doesn't retain heat, the sand stays cool to the touch even in the peak of summer. You can walk barefoot in 100-degree heat without burning your feet, which is a genuine rarity for a beach this far south.

The second thing you'll notice is the sheer size of the beach. From the pavilions to the waterline, it takes several minutes just to walk across. That width is what makes Siesta Beach feel spacious even during the busiest weeks of the year. You'll often see people tossing a football or frisbee, playing spikeball, or hitting the volleyball courts — the beach is wide enough that there's always room for it.

The beach park covers roughly 75 acres and features two pavilions, restrooms, concession stands, picnic areas, and volleyball courts. It's open daily from 6 AM to midnight, and admission is always free.

Parking & Directions

Siesta Beach is located at 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key. The main parking lot is free and fairly large.

Off-season (April through December), parking is almost never an issue, especially on weekdays. You can show up mid-morning or early afternoon and find a spot without any trouble. The exception is holiday weekends — July 4th, Memorial Day, and Labor Day will pack the lot regardless of the time of year.

High season (January through March) is a different story. The lot can fill up by late morning even on weekdays. If you arrive after 11 AM during peak season, you may be circling for a spot. Holidays make it worse — Christmas week and spring break are the most congested times of the year.

If the main lot is full, you have a couple of options. A paid overflow lot sits just south of the main parking area. There's also parking available at St. Boniface Episcopal Church on Midnight Pass Road for around a $20 donation. If you're visiting during a peak period, try the main lot first, but if you don't find anything within 5 to 10 minutes, you're better off heading to one of the paid options rather than circling endlessly.

The Pavilions

Siesta Beach has two pavilions, one on each side of the beach park.

The main pavilion (right side, facing the beach) is the single-story structure closest to the iconic Siesta Key Beach sign — the one everyone takes photos with. This is also where you'll find the raised walkway that extends from the pavilion out across the sand toward the water. If you're hauling a wagon, pushing a stroller, or using a wheelchair, enter from this side. The walkway makes it dramatically easier to get your gear onto the beach without dragging everything through soft sand.

The second pavilion (left side, facing the beach) is a two-story structure with no raised walkway — you step directly onto sand. The tradeoff is worth knowing about: the second floor offers one of the best vantage points for photos overlooking the entire beach. If you're looking for that panoramic shot, head upstairs.

Both pavilions have restrooms and concessions with food and drinks. The main pavilion also sells basic beach supplies.

Local Tips

💡 Know Before You Go
  • Use the main pavilion entrance if you're bringing gear. The raised walkway makes it much easier to haul gear onto the beach. The other pavilion drops you straight into sand.
  • Head to the second-floor pavilion for photos. The two-story pavilion on the left side of the beach has an elevated view that most visitors walk right past.
  • Don't circle the lot during peak season. Instead of driving laps, look for people walking back toward the parking area with their beach gear. Roll your window down and ask if they're leaving — they'll usually point you right to their spot.
  • Set up further from the water for more space. Most people cluster near the waterline, but even moving back a short distance opens up significantly more room — the beach is wide enough that you'll never feel crowded.
  • Spring and fall are the sweet spot. The weeks after Easter and before the winter holidays offer the best mix of great weather and lighter crowds. Parking is easy and the temperatures are comfortable without the intensity of summer heat.
